The Mage Tower was one of the best additions to the Legion expansion. It's back now in Shadowlands with Legion Timewalking and offers new cosmetics and a mount if you're able to beat all 7 challenges.

Definitely not the cleanest kill having not touched my hunter in several months, but it showcases how possible it is to come back from your pet dying.

** Suggestions **
Surprisingly rocks falling from Earthquake killed me more than anything. I believe those are a fixed location, so once you see where they fall, try and just always be away from them. It's easier if you just don't have to think about those so you can juggle everything else.

Before Tugar goes down, it's not a DPS race, it's about executing the mechanics. Just continue to go through the motions.

After Tugar is down, it's definitely a DPS race as Jormog will be doing 150% increased damage. Make sure to line up your cds for this. I would even delay killing Tugar if it meant you needed a few to get cds up. This is also where you'll lust/drums and second potion.

The fight is mechanics and sustain. Most guides will suggest a Clefthoof or Corehoud. I opted for more survivability with a Spirit Beast for the Spirit Mend. As long as you're keeping mend pet up, your pet's not dying from anything other than Fel Burst which would 1 shot it regardless of pet type.
