John McQuilkin has raised pigeons since the age of 8 when his father bought him is first American Fantail that he crossed to a common pigeon. He then raised Indian Fantails thanks to Birmingham Roller breeder Allan Haberman of Florida who gave John quite a few Indian Fantails to make room for more Rollers.

John became fascinated with Pomeranian Pouters as a young boy after discovering a neighbor had a huge white Pomeranian hen. The owner of the hen had received a pair from a deceased friend. It's mate was killed by a cat and he didn't know anyone else who raised Pomeranian Pouters.

Not to be deterred John created his own version of a Pomeranian Pouter by crossing a Brunner Pouter hen he had received from Seminole Florida resident Joe Wolf to an Indian Fantail. It didn't have the size of a Pomeranian Pouter but it looked nice.

Upon moving to California in 1988 John was excited to learn there were many Pomeranian Pouter breeders who could assist him in getting good stock. John has been raising Pomeranian Pouters ever since along with English Pouters and Hungarian House Pigeons.

John has been a member of various pigeon clubs including the Los Angeles Pigeon Club and The National Pouter and Cropper Club. At one time he was a member of the Western Pouter Club but wasn't welcomed or accepted by the members and not much has changed all these years later.

John raises pigeons for his own enjoyment and doesn't enter his pigeons in competition or support clubs that are not welcoming to all people. He does produce a Pageant of Pigeons video from time to time.
