Jen reacts to Elina Ivashchenko, aged 14, performing "1944" as her semi-final song choice during the 2016 edition of The Voice Kids (Ukraine). Elina went on to become the winner of the series.

The track was written and originally performed by Jamala for the Eurovision song contest in 2016, which took place just a few months earlier. The lyrics for "1944" reflect upon the deportation of the Crimean Tatars in the 1940s by the Soviet Union. This was apparently ordered because of the Tatars alleged collaboration with the Nazis, in accordance with policies set out by Joseph Stalin. Many thousands of Tartars died as a direct result of their forced deportation and exile. It is thought likely that the lyrics are also a commentary on the 2014 annexation of Crimea by Russia.
