After working in Australia for 2 years (Since 2020) Martinus Rail DCs 4041 and 4571 returned to New Zealand to aid in building the new Auckland City Rail Link however only Martinus Tampers have helped in that regard and the DCs have been in storage at the Mission Bush Steel Mill and the Glenbrook Vintage Railway. They will now be sent to the south island to help on the Picton Yard upgrade.
While at the GVR the fronts and rears of the locos had to be repainted to yellow (with a new Martinus logo added(done by the volunteers at Glenbrook)) as they did not meet the visibility standard for running in New Zealand.
On the 6th of July 2023 the DCs were moved from Glenbrook to Mission Bush as for a few hours before being taken to Te Rapa on Train 133 led by DL 9302 (Ex Train 138 Loco).
Then on the 8th of July the DCs were put on Train 225s behind DLs 9319 and 9728 from Hamilton to Wellington. Unfortunately not all went to plan as some broken rail at Rukuhia kept the train from leaving Hamilton for a good few hours meaning the chase started later on in the day as because it is winter its gets darker earlier so we only made it as far as Waiouru before we couldn't see anything.
Anyway here are the shots from the 2 days the DCs were being moved between Glenbrook and Wellington.
