A large Toyota and Lexus safety recall has been announced affecting more than 1 million vehicles across Toyota, Lexus, and Subaru, including certain Lexus RX Hybrid Plug-In models equipped with a Panoramic View Monitor system.

According to Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, a software error may cause the rearview camera image to freeze or display a blank screen when the vehicle is placed in reverse.

⚠️ The Risk

If the rearview camera image freezes or does not display:

The driver may not see what is behind the vehicle

This increases the risk of backing into another vehicle, object, or a pedestrian

These vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 111 (Rear Visibility).

When shifting into reverse, the camera screen may remain frozen or blank. This can occur without warning and may not resolve during that drive, particularly in parking lots or residential areas.
