In response to several viewers' questions, I'm digging into the history of "Is IU a land-grant school?" "Where did the land come from that founded IU?" and "Since IU was a 'frontier college' does that mean there were Native Americans on the land when IU started?" (And yes, the crickets were loud while I was filming.....)

Sidenote 1: There was also a small land grant from sales of a township in Gibson County. It was later revoked and the money was given to Vincennes University. That's a great story for another time.

Sidenote 2: Most of the "A&M schools" created under the Morrill Land Grant Act of 1862 received money from the sale of "federal land" in the Western U.S. As opposed to early land grant schools like IU which were often built on the land they were granted in addition to selling some of it.
