My notes:
-Flying from Houston to Joburg
-20 hours in the air
-Time zones Wednesday to Friday
-Parents blessed me for my birthday and upgraded me to business class
-Two flights with different aircraft, so I can compare
-Benefits of flying business class with Turkish is that it comes with lounge access, let's go check it out here in Houston
Polaris Lounge in Houston - overview and reaction
Flight 1 Houston to Istanbul (11 hours 30 minutes)
-Boeing 777-300
-Turkish Airlines overnight has food on demand so you order whenever you're hungry (including their 12,000 year old bread)
-Fresh juices on demand
-1gb free wifi
-free live sports and news
-high end almost noise canceling headphones
-nice bathrooms
-Storage closet for coats next to bathroom
-they make your bed for you
-tray table rotates
-magnetic salt and pepper
-Like the bin on my left to drop things into
-Like the footrest is also a trunk for storage
-Slept about 6 hours
-Hurt back and shoulder made the experience a lot less satisfying
-Couldn't eat even half of the breakfast
Turkish Lounge in Istanbul
-The nicest lounge I've ever been in
-spacious! could probably fit about 300 people
-Didn't want to video in the bathroom, but after someone uses the toilet, they clean it immediately
-lots of food options
-cool fingerprint lockers
-has 8 actual computers and printers in the business center
-Back hurting but there's plenty of space to walk around in. I'm doing laps 🤣
Flight 2 (9 hours 10 minutes)
Airbus 350-900
-more private seats, but also more cramped and not as long (it was my exact height)
-different menu, which is nice
-Less people to share bathroom with so wait times shorter
-individual coat hooks at seat
-location of remote in bad spot, I kept accidentally turning on the super bright and close to my face TV
-to go to the toilet have to reset bed all the way to seated from laying down
-both flights much warmer than other airlines, where I'm wearing a jacket the whole flight. I was stripping down on both flights!
-Like the big platform on my left for placing things
-back on fire at this point
-Slept 4 hours
-ate whole breakfast this time
-Maybe having the pod closer to the aisle and storage inside would be more comfortable. Definitely first row would be more comfortable as they have more leg room.
Which flight was better?
-food - both delicious
-seating - 1st was more spacious and the TV was farther and the remote was better placed
-service - 1st they were more attentive and came by faster
-bathrooms - 2nd barely had to wait, on 1st waited 3 times for about 5 minutes each
-overall experience - 1st was a bigger plane and a longer flight, and my back was fresher
Just epic, thanks again to my parents🙏
Had I not had such bad back pain the entire experience would have been even better.
Total trip 28+ hours
Total distance 11,008 miles (17,715.5km)
