Perhaps an unexpected pairing, Biltmore and Castle Drogo share many common bonds — both built by the premier architect of the day in their respective countries, both built to secure the family position in society, both built in the midst of acres of land overlooking beautiful countryside — yet both so different architecturally as to provide valuable insights in their contrast.

Anthony "Ankie" Barnes
A native of Johannesburg, South Africa, Ankie received his education at the University of Witwatersrand (B. Arch) and Yale University (M. Arch). In between his studies, he traveled extensively and gained professional experience working in London, Cape Town, and Guatemala. Being trained in both traditional and modern architecture, his experience while at Hartman Cox Architects in the 1980s, where he met Steve Vanze, was impactful with opportunities to design contextual institutional, educational, and civic projects across aa stylistic spectrum. Particular emphasis in the classical and traditional realm later became the philosophical design basis of BVA’s well-known residential work. Since establishing BarnesVanze Architects in 1989, Ankie and Steve have grown the practice to realize a range of constructed projects every year. Ankie’s design agility and passion for merging traditional design with advanced technologies is widely recognized.

Thomas A. Kligerman
Thomas A. Kligerman was raised in Connecticut and New Mexico, and spent years in France and England as a student. These experiences sparked his interest in the rich history of domestic architecture, gardens and landscapes. Before co-founding Ike Kligerman Barkley, Tom worked for Robert A. M. Stern Architects and received his Bachelor of Arts from Columbia University and his Master of Architecture from Yale School of Architecture. He is passionate about the design process, and loves studying and creating architectural models. He serves on the boards of a number of charitable and educational institutions.

Martin Lutyens
Chairman of The Lutyens Trust America & Co-Chairman, The Lutyens Trust, UK London
Martin Lutyens, great-nephew of Sir Edwin Lutyens, is Chairman of The Lutyens Trust America and Co-Chairman of The Lutyens Trust in the UK. Both trusts are dedicated to the study and conservation of Sir Edwin's architectural heritage.

Dr. Robin H. Prater
is a key member of the group that founded The Lutyens Trust America, and currently serves as their Executive Director. An architectural historian and registered professional civil engineer, Dr. Prater holds a PhD in Architecture from the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), as well as Bachelor and Masters degrees in Civil Engineering. Her diverse background includes designing in environments as diverse as offshore oil platforms and coal preparation plants, as well as teaching at East Tennessee State University, Gwinnett Technical College, and Georgia Institute of Technology. Her PhD dissertation was on the Neo-Georgian architecture of Sir Edwin Lutyens.
