When you buy the Google Pixel Tablet, Google gives you a speaker dock for free. This is a nice addition to the tablet as it essentially allows you to turn it into a Nest Hub. But what if you want to use the device docked in multiple locations?

Google does have additional docks that you can buy in their store for $130, but we can configure the Pixel Tablet to use Hub Mode without a dock at all.

To do this, we need to open up the Settings application and then tap on Hub Mode.
From here, select the Screen Saver feature.
And you should see an option labeled When to Start.

This will give us two different options for when Hub Mode is enabled for our device.
By default, the Pixel Tablet will only go into Hub Mode when it is charging and docked onto the speaker.

But if we change this to While Charging, then Hub Mode will activate anytime the device is plugged into a charger.

Now, instead of spending $130 for multiple speaker docks around your house, you can get a much affordable generic tablet stand from places like Amazon, Walmart, or Best Buy. These tend to cost about $10 to $15 a piece and will allow you to use Hub Mode on your Google Pixel Tablet without connecting it to the speaker dock.

Granted, you don't get the added external speaker system with this method. But it can save you over $100. And not everyone uses the speaker when they want their device to be in Hub Mode. There are even some tablet cases that will prop up the tablet in landscape mode for you.

That way, you only have to plug the Google Pixel Tablet in and your device can be used as a Nest Hub.

I have yet to get the Pixel Tablet myself, as I'm just not in the market for a tablet right now. But I definitely see the appeal of such device. Especially if you don't already have connected speakers or displays set up around your house.
