This device digitizes analog audio signals from an electric guitar and encodes that information into a MIDI stream for use by MIDI-compatible devices such as digital audio workstations and synthesizers. It is made to be used by musicians in either a studio or live setting as a way to record sheet music or control MIDI instruments. We used a fast Fourier transform to extract the frequency domain data from the input signal and a note detection algorithm uses this data to find what notes are being played. The information from the note detection is then used to create a MIDI stream that is sent to the MIDI output port. The main difference between this project and existing devices like this is that all of the portable analog to MIDI devices are monophonic, meaning they can only convert one note at a time. This device is polyphonic and is capable of converting up to six notes at once.
