If you are tested by God, do not rush to complain or blame Him. For a lump of rotten mud has no value to be refined—but if a stone contains gold and silver within, people will surely take it to the furnace. When God allows us to face trials, it proves that we are useful and worth refining. If He truly paid no attention to us, no trials would ever come. You may think you are blessed just because you watch others being tested—but that may not be blessing at all. Perhaps your material has little purpose, and refining you makes no difference. Gold and silver were the most precious metals in ancient times—that is why God refines. James reminds us: “My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials.” (James 1:2) The word count means to regard, to consider, to reckon. When storms arise in life—when someone at home becomes sick, or when sudden crises shake your peace—you may ask God why He did not protect you. But understand this: if you were not gold or silver in His eyes, you would not even qualify for the furnace. So never look lightly on the suffering and trials God permits in our lives—for they show that God has expectations for us. He sees that you are not ordinary material—He is intentionally shaping you into a vessel of purpose. Abba Father, I know You hold expectations for every one of us—that we may be refined into vessels as precious as gold and silver. But my flesh and heart are failing, and now I cry out to You—pleading that You be the strength of my heart and my portion forever. I do not ask You to remove the trials—I only ask that You keep me standing strong within them. I pray this in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.
