Melbourne, Australia’s Steve Law started Zen Paradox in 1991, because incorporating the then emerging techno sounds into his industrial band Foil wasn’t very successful. The move to techno wasn’t unsurprising since Steve had been obsessed with electronic music since the late 70s, tracing a lineage beginning with science fiction and movie soundtracks, to the discovery of the synthesizer through a Human League video, of starting to make synth based music himself (Guild of Fire) and developing a fascination for experimental and industrial music, which led to a couple of solo releases and co-founding Foil. The band released a few albums and gigged a lot in Melbourne in the early 90s, but Law left the band beginning of 1994 wanting to focus on Zen Paradox. The vibrant Melbourne scene of those days proved to be the ideal hotbed for the project, which really took off the same year as Law started touring internationally. Say Goodbye to the Dark Place was originally released on the 1993 album Eternal Brainwave on Nova Zembla. This psychedelic techno track, built around a pulsating bass groove and a strong percussive foundation, peppered with alienating effects and drenched in warm synth tapestries, sets every dancefloor it touches ablaze.
