The neon lights are bright again on Broadway.

After over a year, Broadway's famed St. James theatre had a performance on Saturday.

Actor Nathan Lane and world-renowned tap dancer Savion Glover performed separate pieces to a masked, socially distanced crowd.

Lane performed a Paul Rudnick piece called "Playbills" that recounts the story of a Broadway super-fan living through the pandemic without theatre.

Glover performed a medley of Broadway favorites to an enthusiastic crowd.

"It made me very emotional. I'm an actor myself. So it's been a year, over year since I've been on stage. And just to sit down in the theater was just astonishing and felt really good, of course, is certainly distant and everybody was really careful, but it was amazing to be part of it. Really amazing," said Peter Gregus.

Jordan Roth, the owner of the St. James said the performance was a long time in the making.

"We've been waiting a year for this moment, to open its doors and welcome people back in line, and we have artists creating on our stages. This is the beginning of the beginning of coming home," said Roth.

Roth said he hoped more of Broadway opens up soon.

The performances were a pop up event put on by Jujamcyn Theaters.
