There are quite a few different ways you can go about investing in the metaverse, each with varying amounts of risk and reward
There are two main categories when it comes to metaverse worlds, gamified vs. realistic
An example of a realistic metaverse is Mark Zuckerbergs Meta
Graphics will be very life like, and interactions within meta will be very life like
You might even be having work meetings in your companies metaverse office space within a few years
Meta seems to be the leader in this “realistic” type of metaverse
In these games you could show your status by owning different items and leveling up your characters
These games are much like some of the most popular current meta verses like the Sandbox and Decentraland
First up we have one of the most risky metaverse investments - buying land
To put buying land in the metaverse simply, you are purchasing a piece of land in the metaverse of your choice in the form of an NFT, or non fungible token
The most popular meta verses to buy land in right now are
Decentraland
The sandbox
and Upland
Currently the cheapest piece of land in Decentraland is around 4000 MANA, which converts to over $13,000 USD
Again, land investing is very risky as it will depend on the continued success and popularity of the specific metaverse land you are buying in
Buying land in the metaverse also could allow you to earn passive income through experiences
For example, if you buy land in the Sandbox, you can then build games, and other experiences that you could charge people money to partake in, which could allow for even more ways to make money off of your land
Alright, so we have the ability to invest in virtual land, but another good way of investing in the metaverse is to buy the cryptocurrencies that are used by each metaverse
For example, SAND is used in the sandbox metaverse to buy and sell land and assets

For reference, in the past year MANA was up 135%, SAND was up 15.4K%, and AXS was up over 17K%
Another way you can invest in the metaverse is by buying NFTs that can be used or placed in the metaverse worlds
For example, the Sandbox has an NFT Marketplace where you can buy various NFTs to place in your LAND
These type of NFTs work exactly like the NFTs we know and love like crypto punks, NBA hot shots, and other popular NFTs
The twist is that we are starting to see actual utility for the NFTs since they will be a real, virtual item in the metaverse
There are wearables, artwork, and normal everyday items that you could own
Snoop dog, the walking dead, and Atari are some of the brands that have NFT collections in the Sandbox
One interesting thing is that there are NFTs that act as tickets for virtual concerts and experiences
I view these type of metaverse NFTs a lot like virtual land, longer term investments that could yield very very high returns
And last but not least, a very good indirect way of investing in the metaverse is buying stocks for companies that are associated with the Metaverse
Meta’s stock is an obvious one here as they are going to be on the forefront of metaverse development and virtual reality technology
Apple, Facebook, NVIDIA, Roblox, and Unity are also good examples of stocks that you may want to consider when looking at long term metaverse investments
