How Did the US Annex Hawaii?

Why is Hawaii a part of the USA? It's the only state outside of North America, and was the last to join the Union. Not to mention that it was independent, as the Kingdom of Hawaii, for a century before the US flag was raised over the islands. American settlers came to Hawaii before the US government did. They acted as missionaries and converted much of the Hawaiian population, but eventually, under the leadership of Sanford B. Dole and the Hawaiian League, they overthrew Queen Lili'uokalani and the Hawaiian monarchy, and invited in the US.
