However, it is not mandatory to change or update name in marksheet or certificates even after changing your name legally in India with the help of gazette publication.

It is mandatory to change in all the government identity proof but optional for educational certificates. But, if anyone wants to change or do correction in marksheet, so there are certain set of rules that you have to follow in order to update name in educational certificates.

You have to file a declaration suit under section 34 SRA Act in the civil court with the help of lawyer. It's a lengthy process and can take upto 6 months to 12 months to get an order from the court. Once you get the order from the court, youy can easily change or correction in 10th or 12th class marksheet or educational documents or college marksheets.
