We are facing a climate and ecological emergency. Can we draw on the knowledge of First Nations peoples to heal Country, restore rainfall, reduce destructive wildfires, draw down carbon and help cool the land?

Land-clearing, draining of wetlands, and reduced Indigenous cultural burning have damaged the ‘biotic pump’ that used to bring rains to the centre of Australia. The chains of ponds cared for by First Nations peoples, have been replaced by rushing rivers carrying precious topsoil out to sea, drying the land, and worsening global heating.

The video includes presentations from Firesticks Alliance on Indigenous cultural burning, AusRegen on using traditional knowledge to restore waterways, and Jane Morton on the importance of nature-based drawdown and cooling to address the climate and ecological emergency.
