One of the freedoms we have in America is to choose how we give and who knows about it. But that freedom is being undermined because some believe the government should be allowed to track and store personal donor information about private giving to nonprofits. This is especially concerning in California, where the state attorney general’s office has a reputation of leaking sensitive donor information like a sieve.

That’s not right.

Your private information, such as your personal address and who you donate to, should remain a private matter, especially since the dawn of “cancel culture.”

There’s a case currently before the Supreme Court, Thomas More Law Center vs. Bonta (formerly known as Thomas More Law Center v. Becerra), that will significantly impact donor privacy rights.

While the government is involved in a lot of activities these days, making private charitable donation information public, intentionally or unintentionally, shouldn’t be one of them.
