Valley of Fire State Park - Nevada State Park

Valley of Fire State Park is the oldest state park in Nevada, USA. It was dedicated in 1935. It is about hour drive east of Las Vegas. The red sandstone formations are the centerpiece of the park and appear to be on Fire when shown in the sun. For the most part, the rocks are a conglomerate of limestone, shale and eroded sandstone which can sometimes cast one into a trance; caught in some sort of dream in an alien landscape. If one stares long enough into the rocks, one can envision a terrestrial landscape left behind by some ancient space beings from long ago. The rocks seem to come alive with voices and the animated ancestors from some prehistoric race.

To add to the experience is the knowledge that ancient Pueblo Peoples, also known as the Anasazi, occupied this region from 300 B.C. to A.D. 1150. Fine examples of Anasazi petroglyphs can be found throughout the park. No trip to Vegas should exclude a day out into this desert park. It's even better in the spring when the flowers are blooming.
