Speaker: Hiroki Ogasawara (Kobe University)

Dr. Ogasawara is currently Associate Professor in Sociologyand Cultural Studies in the Graduate School of Intercultural Studies, Kobe University, Japan. He received his PhD in Sociology from Goldsmiths College, University of London.

His main interests are media and cultural studies, race and racism, the sociology of sport and the body, the social history of piracy. Recent publications include The Poetics and Politics of Football (co-edited and co-authored, Jinbun-shoin, 2006), Black Atlantic and the Current State of Intellectuals (edited and co-authored, Shoraisha, 2009), and 'Pirates' Modernity-On the Reincarnating Body of Hydra'in Contemporary Thought, Seido-sha, July 2011.
