When Todd Miller walked into Shark Tank during Season 4, he brought with him a massage method that was anything but ordinary. His business, The BodyWalking Institute, offered a bold new way to relieve muscle tension - by having licensed therapists walk on clients' backs using a custom-built handrail system for balance.
Todd was seeking a $100,000 investment in exchange for 10% equity, placing his company’s valuation at $1 million. He pitched BodyWalking as a revolutionary product in the massage therapy space - a deep-tissue massage that reduces strain on therapists’ hands while offering clients intense relief, inspired by ancient Chinese practices.
Todd’s pitch was hands-on. He demonstrated the product on Barbara Corcoran, who admitted, “It actually felt amazing.” But the other Sharks wanted more than just a good feeling - they wanted business numbers.
Todd revealed that he charged $1,500 per certification and had trained only 30 therapists in seven years. That’s less than five sales per year - far too slow for the Sharks' liking.
Kevin O’Leary pointed out the lack of proprietary protection, saying any competitor could replicate the idea without needing to purchase rights or licenses.
In the end, no offers were made. Todd walked out of the Tank without a deal.
Despite leaving empty-handed, Todd didn't give up. The TV exposure sparked a sales boost and website traffic surged. Shortly after his episode aired, he appeared on the popular daytime talk show The Doctors, which helped further promote his product and improve brand credibility.
Todd later launched the BodyWalking Institute, a full training and certification center offering workshops for massage therapists across the U.S. He also introduced new products on his website, aiming to generate more revenue streams and diversify the business.
As of 2025, the business is estimated to have a net worth of $1.61 million, with a growing number of certified therapists operating across multiple U.S. states.
While Todd hasn’t reached his dream of opening BodyWalking parlors in every city, he’s created a sustainable business with real market potential. His story proves that rejection on Shark Tank doesn’t mean the end - in fact, it can be the start of something bigger.
