At least 40 people were killed when an out-of-control bus veered off a bridge and plunged into a ravine in Guatemala City, Guatemala, on Monday morning, February 10, according to municipal authorities. That number was expected to rise, as local media cited officials saying the death toll had reached 54. Several people were rescued from the site, according to the city’s volunteer firefighting service. This footage from municipal authorities shows crews working to recover victims, both alive and dead, from the wreckage of the bus. President Bernardo Arevalo declared three days of national mourning for the victims of the crash and ordered personnel from the army and the country’s disaster management agency to assist at the scene.
