In this informative video, Mr. Vivek Kumar Agarwal from Udham Singh Nagar (Uttarakhand) shares his experience of suffering from constant tearing in his right eye for nearly seven months. After consulting various doctors locally and undergoing a diagnostic syringing test, he was advised to undergo surgery for a blocked tear duct.
Unsure of where to go, he researched trusted eye surgeons online and chose Dr. Ruchi Goel at Eye7 Hospitals, Lajpat Nagar, after watching educational videos and reading patient reviews.
Dr. Ruchi, Senior Consultant and Head of Oculoplasty at Eye7 Hospitals, explains the condition in simple terms. Due to an obstruction in the nasolacrimal duct, tears were being produced normally but were not draining into the nose.
As a result, the fluid started collecting inside the tear sac, leading to mucoid discharge, discomfort, and continuous watering. If left untreated, this can even turn into a painful infection or form an external fistula.
To resolve the problem, Dr. Ruchi performed a Dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) procedure. In this surgery, instead of trying to clear the blocked duct, a new drainage passage is created between the eye and the nasal cavity, allowing tears to bypass the blockage and drain normally. The procedure is safe, effective, and restores normal tear drainage.
Fifteen days after surgery, Mr. Vivek returned for a follow-up and the tubes placed during surgery were removed. He reports complete relief — no watering, no discharge, and no discomfort. The syringing test performed post-operatively confirmed that tears are now flowing properly into the nasal cavity.
