While searching for his daughter in the cold snowy streets of Silent Hill during nightfall, Harry Mason suddenly hears the faint wail of a siren in the distance. As the wail of the siren grows louder, the asphalt of the very road he is standing on begins to transform right before his eyes into a rusty metal grating. The snow stops falling, the temperature slowly rises, and it begins to rain instead. The entire world around him has transformed into a rusty nightmarish version of its former self. With no other options, he readies his shotgun and continues to search for his daughter.
While searching for his daughter, Harry reaches a pier by the lake. There is an old dilapidated boat house floating by the dock, so he proceeds to investigate it. When he opens the doors of the old boat house, he is shocked and surprised with a sense of joy and relief. Officer Cybil Bennett is safely there. They quickly catch up on the recent events and how they got there. Harry then begins to explain to her what he believes is going on based on everything he's experienced and everything he's learned so far. He tells her that their reality is "being invaded by the otherworld, a world where someones nightmarish delusions come to life....." Cybil responds with confusion as he admits that he still isn't completely sure what going on, but before she can finish, Dahlia Gillespie steps into the room and begins ranting, "the demon is awakening, spreading its wings!!!" as Dahlia continues her rant, she explains to Harry that he must stop "the demon" to save his daughter and save the world. Harry begs for some kind of direction or answer on how to do so, and Dahlia responds by telling him he needs to hurry to the lighthouse to stop the demon from spreading its mark.
