Increased focus on seed oils…
Study, 2020, BMJ, UK Biobank study: 195k people
If you have fructose containing carbs, will damage your
metabolism: no doubt about this one
Seed oils: have avoided being held accountable for all the
damage that they cause
Study looked at Mortality & Dietary Factors
1-no causation, but is informative
Findings: too many seed oils=higher mortality
too many carbs=increase in mortality

Findings continued:
-when seed oil consumption more than 6% then seed oils were
associated with More Mortality Than Carbs!
[Australia avg: 13% calories from seed oils]
Seed oils are the big problem being ignored AND
they are Low Lying Fruit [fairly EASY to avoid]
When reducing carbs….
Don't forget to REDUCE SEED OILS

Fact that they are high in omega6 is why we see
surrogate markers [omega6 to 3 ratio] being associated
with problems
The causation is oxidative stress making IR worse
& causing fatty liver disease & causing sdLDL

Why do we believe carbs are necessary for athletic
performance?
-in 1960s a way to measure glycogen in muscles found
-no other technology, but: figured out:
High performance dropped when glycogen gone
-glycogen is made of glucose, as are carbs, so
OBVIOUS: eat more carbs=more glycogen
-then anaerobic performance better
All due to single technology, easy to use

No one questioned this [so obvious]…
-single evidence for this hypothesis hinges on glycogen
Study, 2016, Jeff Volek, ultramarathon runners
1-well-adapted keto athletes
2-high carb adapted athletes
Before treadmill: muscle biopsy: found that both
groups had SAME GLYCOGEN LEVEL
[hypothesis: after marathon, high carber
would have higher glycogen levels--due to
consuming carbs during race]

Findings: after marathon: No Difference in Glycogen
then: after 2 hour recovery: nutrient replenishment:
1-ketos given fat shakes
2-carbers given carb shakes
Again: No Difference in Glycogen Levels
Biopsy level data proves:
glycogen levels are Maintained over
marathon length performance by
well-adapted, fat-adapted keto athletes

Study, 2018, McSweeny, two groups high level athletes,
12 weeks
1-keto
2-high carb
Results: Peak Power & Critical Power Performance
In both tests of anaPOWERerobic power:
Keto athletes had better times;
higher peak power outputs;
better on Critical Power Performance
-Clear evidence: Keto Improve Performance
