Glucon D (D-Glucose) is a respiratory substrate for plant cells produced in photosynthesis. Plant seedlings, rooted shoots, tissues, and cells in vitro do require sugar (glucose/sucrose) in the growth medium (see picture below). So technically glucose in the growth medium shall benefit a plant.
