Fireworks displays for the New Year countdown at CentralWorld are always a magnet to draw hundreds of thousands of revellers to watch. But this New Year was different. The event was organised during the new normal with live streaming only due to Covid-19 curbs.

The extravaganza from CentralWorld Bangkok Countdown 2021, organised by Central Pattana Plc, carried the tagline "A Symbol of Hope" to represent meaningful positivity from Thais to people around the world.

Many people might have missed the spectacular fireworks scenes which ran for only five minutes.

For the first time ever, with the support of Huawei Technologies (Thailand), the historic fireworks display was recorded in 360-degree Virtual Reality (VR) video with the latest 5G technology.

Together with our partners, Central Pattana, Central Retail Corporation Plc and Centara Grand, the CentralWorld Bangkok Countdown 2021 5G&VR video can be replayed 1,000 times on the Bangkok Post and Post Today Facebook pages and websites.

The video will also be displayed at CentralWorld on Jan 7–18.

Viewers can watch the dazzling sky that night and feel upbeat with a lively start to what we all hope will be a bright 2021.
