🔊🔛 An article I saw equated the port towns on the banks of the #ErieCanal with those found in Europe, and from my observations, a few of them do. They’re in wine country after all, and our first pitstop was the charming village of Pittsford, which gave off mild French vibes—and not just because @anna_staropoli and I wore matching French stripes.

After wine, cocktails, cheese and charcuterie aboard the Cayuga with @frisbierichard’s regional friend @RachelSteyer, we went into town for ice cream at @PittsfordFarmsDairy—although their fresh whole milk and cookies were the winner for me. We were too late for a garbage plate—late night delicacy of the region—but had other matters to attend to instead: one of our boat stakes was loose and fell into the canal so we had to redo it—fortunately all before I accidentally broke the mallet.

The French vibes continued the next morning when we awoke to some ballet dancers practicing at the pavilion right near our dock, followed by a petit déjeuner at @SimplyCrepes.Pittsford, which would have been perfect if not for their uber-salty ham, and their interpretation of poutine that deviated from a basic purist recipe. Breakfast still satisfied though, and fueled us for a stroll along the canals and into town with some browsing in a bookstore. Apparently the European charm only lasts a couple of blocks from the canal because beyond a couple of blocks the scene reverts back into familiar, generic American suburbs. — Pitstopping in Pittsford along the Erie Canal, NY, USA.
