This is one I had a lot of fun messing with since it brought me back around to playing in a metal kinda way. As I was playing with the arrangement, I spent a lot of time trying to figure out a synth sound that would emulate a distorted guitar (y'know, without using an actual guitar) and the farther I got into it the more I realized if I was going to make it sound the way I wanted, I needed that guitar in there. The Ibanez RGA was a solid choice and its got me very excited to revisit ideas I've had with the tools to make them sound how I want.

Obviously this isn't the most complex tune out there. The challenge was to add my own flair while keeping true to the atmosphere the song brings. Using a pick along with boosting the mids on my Musicman gave me this really aggressive tone for the main bass riff. From there, I wanted every tone to compliment it. Rather than just having the main lines repeating, I wanted to bring some different elements for the second run. Namely this fugue-ish bit between the guitars and lead bass, as well as this really heavy harmonized section.

All in all, every new video is a learning experience for me. I try different techniques to bring out certain parts, I'm learning instruments that I've only spent a little time with in the past, and more and more I'm looking at the videos themselves and learning how I can improve the quality using the tools that I have. I can confidently say that this song was a huge step in the right direction and I'm incredibly excited to see how the things I've learned here are going to come in handy later down the line.
