Day 6 - Sugarite Canyon State Park, NM

CANADA Bound - Day 6 finds us moving north almost to Colorado where I plan on fulfilling a long time desire to drive to the top of Pikes Peak. The northern edge of this New Mexico State Park is at the Colorado border, just off Interstate 25. I asked the 2 rangers at the check-in station if I could fly my drone for about 15 minutes. Much to my surprise, they said that if I followed the FAA guidelines and didn't fly it near or around people or animals, then I had their permission. The park entrance is at 6,900 feet elevation and the top of Little Horse Mesa is 8,320 feet. The forecast was for temps to dip into the high 30s tonight. We stayed in the Lake Alice CG as it had water and electricity and a dump station. There is a newer and more spread out campground at higher ground called Soda Pocket CG but dry camping only with flush toilets. $18 for W/E at Lake Alice and half that up at Soda Pocket.
