Incarceration rates in the US are at an all-time high. According to the Marshall Project, there are currently 2.3 million people incarcerated in the United States - more than any other country in the world. What happens when a person is released from prison? They often face tremendous challenges: finding employment, housing, and reintegrating into their communities. In this TEDx Talk, Carla Anderson shares her personal story of being incarcerated and provides insight into how we can create opportunities for returning citizens to thrive. Carla Anderson is an advocate for justice-involved women transitioning back into their community successfully. She is also a Justice Ambassador with Prison Fellowship and proudly leads their initiatives. Carla speaks to us today as a formerly incarcerated woman that feels that had it not been for her lived experience, she would not be able to accurately give a voice to the voiceless and shine light on the forgotten individual...an incarcerated woman. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
