Chamath Palihapitiya is a technology entrepreneur and venture capitalist. He was born in Sri Lanka in 1976 and immigrated to Canada with his family when he was six years old.

Palihapitiya has a background in computer science and worked at several prominent technology companies before founding his own. In 2007, he joined Facebook as the company's first head of user growth and helped the social media platform reach 50 million users.

Palihapitiya left Facebook in 2011 to start his own venture capital firm, Social Capital, which focused on investing in technology startups with a social impact. He has invested in companies such as Slack, Box, SurveyMonkey, and Yammer.

In addition to his work in technology and venture capital, Palihapitiya is also a philanthropist, and has donated millions of dollars to education, healthcare, and environmental causes. He is also a co-owner of the NBA's Golden State Warriors.
