Twenty Years of Project BioShield

Описание к видео Twenty Years of Project BioShield

Please join the CSIS Bipartisan Alliance for Global Health Security on Thursday, July 11 from 5:00 to 6:00 PM ET for a broadcast roundtable discussion on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of Project BioShield.

Launched in 2004 in response to the 2001 anthrax attacks, Project BioShield is foundational to U.S. health security, structuring public-private innovation to protect against chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear (CBRN) threats. Over its 20-year history, the program has accelerated the development of over 35 medical countermeasures, delivering 27 of those products to the Strategic National Stockpile for use in biological emergencies.

The discussion will feature Alliance co-chairs former Senator Richard Burr, DLA Piper, and Dr. Julie Gerberding, CEO of the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health. They will be joined by Dr. Gary Disbrow, Deputy Assistant Secretary and Director of BARDA, the HHS Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority. The conversation will center on Project BioShield’s 20-year legacy, the lessons learned over its tenure, and the current challenges to sustaining bipartisan political and financial support into the next decade.

This event is made possible by the generous support of the Novo Nordisk Foundation.
