What to do with your lilies plants when the flowers have finished?
The important thing is to leave as many green leaves on the plant for as long as possible; so that the energy they create in late summer - autumn can be absorbed back down into the bulbs to provide more shoots and flowers for next year.
But, they can look untidy so in this video Roger tidies up the shoots and leaves by removing the dead flowers (this will also stop the plant wasting energy producing seeds0 so that all the energy from the leaves goes down to the bulbs).
The plants look so much better after the tidy up trim, and Roger also gives an extra tip (for no extra charge!) for how to get some flowers in late winter / early spring around the lily bulbs by planting Crocus bulbs a few inches below the surface (slightly above where the lily bulbs are planted lower down).
