I filmed this walking video in early July at around 1:30 PM. This walk starts at the corner of Perú street and Avenida de Mayo and ends at Plaza General San Martín. I walk the whole length of Florida street. This is a distance of about 1.7 km or 1.1 miles.

On this walk, we'll pass directly through downtown Buenos Aires (Microcentro). We'll pass by dozens of shops, restaurants, theaters, street stands, bars, cafes, arcades, and more. We'll also cross a number of famous avenues including Avenida de Mayo, Avenida Presidente Roque Sáenz Peña (north diagonal), Lavalle street, Avenida Corrientes, and Avenida Córdoba.

Florida street is a pedestrian-only shopping street. It runs north-south right through central Buenos Aires. This street is a major tourist attraction in Buenos Aires. It's a great place to do some shopping, people watch, or grab a bite to eat. Prices are a bit high here. Most businesses cater to tourists. Still, it's a nice place to walk around.

A Note About Exchanging Money (cambio) on Florida Street

During our walk, you'll see some people standing around yelling 'cambio'. These people offer currency exchange at the black market rate. Currently, Argentina has two exchange rates. There is an official rate and a much higher 'blue rate.' If you have dollars and want pesos, Florida street is a great place to exchange them. You'll get an extremely favorable exchange rate here.

If you go to Florida street to exchange money, ask around to find the best rate. The rate varies slightly between exchanges. You get the best rate when exchanging new 100 dollar bills. Smaller bills and Euros are also accepted but the rate isn't as good.

When you agree to a rate, you'll be led to a currency exchange booth. This is usually inside of a kiosk or in a nearby building. Someone will count out your money. They usually give you 500 or 1000 peso notes.

Only exchange what you'll need for the next week or so. Inflation is so high that the rate can change significantly from week to week. When I arrived in Argentina, the blue rate was 200 pesos per dollar. When I left a month later, it was just under 300 per dollar. Not, it's even higher.
