It is very common for the Spider Plant to start turning brown at the tips. Houseplants usually turn yellow or brown when something is wrong. This is most likely a deficiency of some sort.

Spider plants will commonly start to turn brown when you were watering your plant with tapwater. Using the tapwater from your faucet includes an elements called fluoride. Spider plants are very sensitive to this element and the tips of the plant will start to turn brown. You can easily change this by using distilled water or rainwater.

Another reason your spider plant can discolor is due to inadequate watering. Sometimes when you use a watering can to water your house plants the water only drips around the edges of the pot it doesn’t completely saturate the root system. Consider using a watering system called bottom watering. This is where you fill a dish of water and put the entire pot inside the dish of water. This gives the house plant time to absorb water from the bottom up. Allow an hours time to let the plants absorb that water.
