Описание к видео How Apple Killed Intel: The Secret Plan to Build the Ultimate Chip

For over a decade, the "Intel Inside" sticker was a badge of honor for laptops. But behind closed doors at Cupertino, frustration was building. Welcome to Curiosity Atlas! In this episode, we uncover the inside story of how Apple executed the most successful architecture transition in computing history: The move from Intel x86 to Apple Silicon.

👇 IN THIS VIDEO: We explore the secret initiative known as "Project Kalamata" and how Apple decided to bet its entire future on a mobile architecture.

1. The Intel Problem: In the mid-2010s, Apple hit a wall. Intel’s manufacturing process was stalling. Their chips were running hotter, consuming more power, and delaying Apple's roadmap for thinner, faster MacBooks. We discuss the "Skylake" disaster and the moment Apple realized they could no longer rely on a third-party vendor for the heart of their machines.

2. The ARM Advantage: Why change the instruction set? We break down the technical differences between CISC (x86) and RISC (ARM). While the industry believed ARM was only good for iPhones, Apple saw potential for "Performance per Watt" that the competition ignored. By scaling up their A-series chips, they realized they could outperform desktop CPUs while using a fraction of the energy.

3. The TSMC Partnership & Vertical Integration: Apple didn’t do this alone. We analyze the crucial partnership with TSMC (Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company) that gave Apple access to 5nm (and now 3nm) nodes before anyone else. This allowed for Total Vertical Integration—controlling the hardware, software, and now the silicon itself—resulting in the unified memory architecture that makes M-series chips so fast.

4. The Industry Shockwave: When the M1 chip launched in 2020, it didn't just beat Intel; it embarrassed them. We look at how this transition forced the entire PC industry to pivot. From Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite to Intel’s desperate catch-up game with "Lunar Lake," Apple changed the rules of the game.

5. The Future: On-Device AI: Finally, we discuss what’s next. Apple isn't just chasing speed anymore; they are building for the Neural Engine. We explain how this transition positions Apple to lead the era of On-Device Artificial Intelligence, ensuring privacy and sustainable performance for the next decade.
