Origin and Development:
The Arjun is a third-generation main battle tank (MBT) developed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for the Indian Army.
Development began in 1972 by the Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment (CVRDE), a DRDO laboratory.
The tank is named after Arjuna, the archer prince and protagonist of the Indian epic, the Mahabharata.

Capable of firing a variety of ammunition, including APFSDS (Armor-Piercing Fin-Stabilized Discarding Sabot), HEAT, HESH, and LAHAT laser-guided missiles (developed by Israel).
Rate of fire: 6 to 8 rounds per minute.
Can carry 39 to 42 rounds in a special container tube separated from the crew for increased safety.

*Secondary Armament:*
One 7.62mm coaxial machine gun.
One 12.7mm anti-aircraft machine gun (NSV) mounted on the turret.

Combat weight (Mass): Mk.1 is approximately **58.5 tonnes**, and Mk.1A/Mk.2 is approximately **68 tonnes**, making it one of the heaviest tanks.

*Crew:*
Consists of *4 men* (commander, gunner, loader, and driver).

*Variant:*
*Arjun Mk.1:* Initial production variant.
*Arjun Mk.1A:* An improved variant with higher local content and improved combat capabilities.
