M-60T MBT Turkish Army new Tank

The initial shipment of the newly modernized M60T tank has been delivered to the Turkish Army. In mid-2022, a contract was signed between Aselsan and SSB to replace foreign technologies in M60T tanks with domestically produced alternatives, fulfilling the requirements of the Turkish Armed Forces. The M60T tank is now equipped with the Volcan M Fire control system, featuring externally visible components such as a periscopic sighting system, a Remote Weapon Station with a Commander Independent Thermal Viewer (CITV), and a 50 caliber machine gun. Other notable features include an air pressure and temperature mast of the Vulcan M fire control system, a Laser Warning Receiver to detect incoming laser beams from enemy Anti-Tank Guided Missiles (ATGMs), and the Pulat Active Protection System. Pulat deploys outward during combat, generating a shockwave alongside the penetrating projectile, effectively countering shape charge ammunitions but not kinetic energy projectiles.

Additionally, the tank is equipped with a gunner sight at the front, an auxiliary power unit at the rear for supplying power to tank systems when the main engine is off, reducing thermal signature, and lowering operational costs. Further upgrades include a Voice Warning system, Inner Spall lining, Power Distribution System, Air conditioning, and a 360-degree surveillance system for both close and medium ranges. The tank boasts a 120mm smoothbore gun and a coaxial machine gun, powered by a 1000 horsepower engine. This marks a significant achievement for Turkey, as the tank incorporates advanced technologies that many modern tanks lack, such as a Telescopic mast, an Active Protection System, and a Commander's Independent Thermal Viewer. However, it should be noted that the tank lacks protection against kamikaze drones and top-attacking conditions.
