Dr. Mathias Hanses is Melvin and Rosalind Jacobs Endowed Fellow in the Humanities and Associate Professor of Classics and Ancient Mediterranean Studies, African Studies, and African American Studies in the Penn State College of the Liberal Arts. He works on Latin literature (including Roman drama); Africana receptions of ancient Greece and Rome; and race, status, and difference in the ancient Roman world.

Jake Nabel is the Tombros Early Career Professor of Classical Studies, Assistant Professor of Classics and Ancient Mediterranean Studies, and the Director of Undergraduate Studies in the Penn State College of the Liberal Arts, Department of Classics and Mediterranean Studies. He is a historian of ancient Rome and its relations with the empires of pre-Islamic Iran. His research centers on interstate affairs between the early Principate and the Parthian empire, Rome’s imperial peer on the Iranian plateau, Latin literature, the Hellenistic East, and Sasanian history. He draws on both Greco-Roman literary texts and Near Eastern sources to promote the fuller integration of ancient Persia into studying the classical Mediterranean.
