A Lieutenant for the York County Sheriff's Office is fighting for his life while many send words of encouragement for the K9 handler that inspired kids around the country.

Multiple organizations, including the National Association of Professional Canine Handlers, identified Lt. David Godfrey as the man who was one of five officers shot by Matthew Ruth on Wednesday.

Godfrey is one of two survivors from the "brutal ambush" that afternoon that claimed the lives of Northern York County Regional Police detectives Cody Becker, Mark Baker, and Isaiah Emenheiser in North Codorus Township.
