One of the things I love about the Bible is that what we meet with on every page is a view of God.

God has made God known on the pages of Scripture.

And so, Bible study is comparable to an expedition, an exploration, in some area of the world where you travel. Even if you have been there before — if you have been there many times before — there is something new to discover because the place is inexhaustible. Just when you think you have climbed the highest mountain a new vista appears before your eyes and there’s something new and wonderful to take in.

Well, the passage we have before us this morning represents a very clear look into the amazing character of God. And even though we have learned of the mercy and kindness of God in many different places in Scripture, and in many different ways, the view that emerges from this particular text is still breathtaking and almost hard to believe.

What we find in these verses I can express very simply. We see a tremendous sin on the part of the people of God that is confronted in a very tender way.

A tremendous sin that is confronted by a very tender indictment.
