‘Damage’ by H.E.R. was released on October 21, 2020. The song was written by H.E.R., Tiara Thomas, Ant Clemons & Cardiak; with the latter also producing the track along with Jeff “Gitty” Gitelman. It samples ‘Making Love in the Rain’ by Herb Alpert; which was written and produced by Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. The live performance music video for the song was released the same day and shot at the Roxie Theatre in Los Angeles. In the US, ‘Damage’ peaked at number 44 on the Billboard Hot 100, number 16 on Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart and number 5 on the Hot R&B Songs chart; the song also managed to peak at number 28 in New Zealand.
