This webinar starts with the fact that Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world. Many workplaces employing outdoor workers – including local councils and the construction, transport, agriculture, education and infrastructure industries – do not have a sun protection policy despite skin cancer being the most common occupational cancer. Even in Tasmania, protection is typically recommended from September to April, but outdoor workers need to remain vigilant year-round to reduce cumulative exposure. This webinar will help you identify the five key sun protection measures to reduce skin cancer risk, and recognise the importance of policy in protecting workers from ultraviolet (UV) radiation. It will outline key inclusions in a best practice UV workplace policy.

Sophie is a key member of Cancer Council Tasmania’s Cancer Prevention team, delivering its SunSmart program and working within the community to deliver education and information on all key areas of cancer prevention. She has worked with workplaces (including local councils) to develop sun safe policies and deliver staff education on reducing occupational and recreational exposure to UV. Sophie has a bachelor degree in nutrition science and has a keen interest in ways we can change environments, implement policy and work with communities to improve health outcomes.
