When periods stop being whispered about, real change begins.

This short film captures what unfolded in rural Uttarakhand when reusable menstrual pads were introduced in government schools across Champawat and Pithoragarh.

Over the past year, Saukhyam Foundation, in collaboration with the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan of the Government of Uttarakhand, reached 31 schools and distributed 5,000+ reusable menstrual pad sets to students, supported by baseline and endline surveys.

Reusable menstrual products are safe, sustainable, and cost-effective, especially for public programs that rely on repeated procurement of disposable pads. With disposables, we pay twice — once with money, and again with waste.

This is not just about distributing eco-friendly menstrual products. It is about changing mindsets, restoring dignity, and making conversations around periods as normal as any other health topic.

Half the world menstruates. Isn’t it time the other half joined the conversation?
