The Road of Trials refers to the next stage in The Hero's Journey (monomyth) which explains why we need adversity in our lives. The hero enters the unknown ( the supernatural domain) and has to overcome obstacles and challenges to reach his full potential. In the process, he has to make allies, form friendships, and become more self-aware. In addition to a series of examples in Brave, Inside Out, Soul, and Zootopia, we will discuss the meaning of the Road of Trials for practical purposes in our daily lives. We will examine real-life examples of people who overcame tremendous difficulty in their lives including David Gogins and Milton Erickson.
