The Boy and the Heron Review

The Boy and the Heron (君たちはどう生きるか, Kimitachi wa Dō Ikiru ka, literally "How Do You All Live?") is a Japanese animated fantasy film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki (Kiki's Delivery Service). Featuring Soma Santoki, Masaki Suda, Ko Shibasaki, Aimyon, Yoshino Kimura, Takuya Kimura, Kaoru Kobayashi, and Shinobu Otake in the original version with Luca Padovan, Robert Pattinson, Karen Fukuhara, Gemma Chan, Christian Bale, Mark Hamill, Florence Pugh, Willem Dafoe, Dave Bautista, Barbara Rosenblat, Melora Harte, Barbara Goodson, Mamoudou Athie, Tony Revolori, and Dan Stevens providing voices for the English dub. Inspired by Genzaburō Yoshino's 1937 novel, The Boy and the Heron is Studio Ghibli's 25th feature film. The story follows a boy named Mahito Maki who moves to the countryside with his father after his mother's death. While there he discovers an abandoned tower near his new home and enters a fantastical world with a talking grey heron.
