The Great St. Bernard Pass is one of the most well-known mountain passes in the world. Armies led by Julius Caesar and later by Napoleon used this pass for their alpine crossing. But its history dates over 3000 years back. It is also famous because of the old hospice and its iconic Saint Bernard dog used to rescue travelers. You can climb to this pass from Italy and Switzerland, but the climb from the Italian side is the most beautiful. This climb takes the approach from Aosta via Gignod. On the lower slopes, there is more traffic. But a tunnel makes sure that motorized vehicles are almost none-existing on the higher slopes. The mountain pass itself has a beautiful lake and the hospice which still today welcomes travelers. The climb has been used several times by the Tour de France and Giro d’Italia. And it takes the same route as Tour du Mont Blanc, a 333 km long day race.

Just add music:
Most cyclists would agree that the ride to Col du Tourmalet is outstanding. But with music, opinions are very mixed. So we have added no music. Instead, we recommend adding your favorite music to the ride. It is quite simple. Mute YouTube and open a browser window. Find a site that offers music (Spotify, YouTube, etc…) and pick the music you like, and enjoy the ride... We have left the original sound of the ride out. This is because the noise from passing cars, vibrations from the road, wind, and the rider's breathing drowns the natural sound of the surroundings.
