How I paint an abstract landscape from beginning to end - on location outdoors ( also sometimes called "plein aire painting" )

In this video I take you along with me and show you the process from the beginning to end. I paint outside in nature using acrylic paint and heavy weight paper, but you can also use watercolor paper or canvas.

I love to bring my sketchbook and paints outdoors and paint from nature. I also take a lot of photographs - but nothing compares to the sketches and small studies made outside directly from nature.

Sketching is a way for me to bring nature with me back into the studio. The colors, the light and most importantly how the landscape 'feels' to me. I use the sketches as a reference to make larger paintings back in the studio.
