Symposium II “Performances of No-thingness” of the "Colonial Repercussions/Koloniales Erbe" event series at the Akademie der Künste, Berlin (26 and 27 May 2018)

With the Colonial Repercussions/Koloniales Erbe event series, the Akademie der Künste examines the structures of colonial power relations, which continue to impact on science, art and society today. The curatorial framing of Symposium II “Performances of No-thingness” represents an inquiry into Black diasporic cultural productions as a critique on hegemonic concepts of identity. In this discursive platform Black perspectives challenge Western concepts of gender, race, sexualities and dis-abilities through dance and sound performances, workshops, city tours and lectures by Nana Adusei-Poku,Travis Alabanza, Ain Bailey, Melissa Blanco Borelli, NIC Kay, Autumn Knight, Okwui Okpokwasili, Julia Phillips, Peggy Piesche, Anta Helena Recke, Christina Sharpe, Sorryyoufeeluncomfortable and Julia Wissert.

Welcome:
Johannes Odenthal (Programme Director, Akademie der Künste, Germany)
Nana Adusei-Poku (Curator, Scholar for Cultural Studies and Art History, New York City, USA)
